Cyclist killed by speeding car

A pedal cyclist was killed yesterday afternoon on the Houston Bypass, Georgetown, when the driver of a speeding car lost control and slammed into him.

Dead is Ivan Gopaul a resident of Lot 48 Houston Housing Scheme, Georgetown.

Reports reaching Stabroek News say that around 4 pm, two cars were racing along the Houston Public Road and while one was trying to overtake the other, the driver lost control and slammed into Gopaul who was on his pedal cycle at the side of the road. Shortly after the accident the police arrived on the scene and took the injured man to the Georgetown Hospital around 4.53 pm but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Gopaul sustained injuries to the head and neck as a result of the collision.
