Man denies having ammo in his pocket

A man who allegedly had ammunition in his pocket was yesterday refused bail by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Stravo Evans, 21, of Grove, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of ammunition at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on January 6 at Georgetown, Evans had in his possession four rounds of 9mm ammunition without having a firearm licence. The ammunition was said to have been found in Evans’ pocket. Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews asked that bail be refused for Evans, telling the court that the defendant had served one year in prison for a similar offence and that the police had found the ammunition in his pocket. He will return to Court One on February 13.
