Carjacker held with gun

Police arrested a man who was in possession of a firearm on Wednesday on the East Bank of Demerara following an attempted robbery foiled by the intended victim.

The police in a press release yesterday stated that they arrested a man at Friendship on the East Bank with a .22 firearm. Investigations revealed that a taxi driver of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara was hired by the suspect who requested a drop from Non Pareil to Georgetown.

When the car got to Georgetown the suspect held the driver at gunpoint and ordered him to drive to several places. At Friendship Gas Station the driver deliberately drove the vehicle into the gas station’s Mini Mart.

The suspect was subsequently caught by public-spirited citizens in the area as he was trying to escape and is in police custody as investigations continue.
