Four men yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer, separately, to charges of having carnal knowledge of two teenaged girls and a woman.

According to the court reports Magistrate Sullivan granted bail in the sum of $100,000 to 38-year-old businessman Andrew Morgan and remanded 37-year-old Gregory Elexey and 28-year-old Jermaine Mickle who were charged jointly, and 18-year-old Badesh Ramdeo. They were not required to plead to the charges.

Morgan, of Lot 7 Norton Street, Wortmanville, during the month of August, at Ruimveldt, allegedly had carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl. His attorney, Glen Hanoman told the court that the girl had admitted to the police, in the presence of his client, that the allegation was untrue. “It’s a third party that wants to pursue the matter,” Hanoman said. He also said that the case was not sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and that his client was prematurely charged and was placed on $10,000 station bail. Hanoman further said that the matter will not be pursued.

In her submission Police Prosecutor Maxine Graham asked that if Morgan was to be granted bail it should be set at a substantial sum. He was ordered to appear at court on February 20.

In the court’s case against Elexey, of 3 Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden and Mickle, of Fitzburg, Port Kaituma; the men are accused of raping a 20-year-old woman, on January 11, at Rail Line, Port Kaituma, North West District. They were refused bail and ordered to appear at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court on February 6.

In the case against Ramdeo, he is accused of having carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl whom he allegedly took to St Andrew’s, Essequibo, on November 29 last year, where he committed the act.

His attorney, Anil Nandlall, told the court that the girl ran away from home with Ramdeo because she was ill treated at home and was even chopped by her brother.

In response, Graham submitted that bail should be refused and that if what Nandlall said was in fact true, then Ramdeo should have taken the girl to her grandparent’s home instead of taking her to St Andrew’s Plantation. Ramdeo was ordered to appear at court on January 22.
