The Ministry of Health is spearheading a massive beautification exercise along Brickdam in time for the Cricket World Cup (CWC).

A press release from the ministry said the exercise will include repairs to existing traffic lights and the erection of street lights, the repainting of buildings and of the Independence Arch, drainage improvement and a planting exercise.

Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy has already met businesses along Brickdam including Deloitte & Touche, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraphy Company, Don Gomes Optical, NTN Channel 69 and the Dr Max Hanoman Medical Centre to share ideas.

Ramsammy said that the exercise had been long in the making but the CWC now serves as an incentive to have it completed. He also urged the group not to let the initiative end with CWC.

The ministry said there are three government ministries along Brickdam, more than 20 private enterprises and several non-governmental organisations.
