Miner on $100,000 bail over carnal knowledge

A 21-year-old man who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl was on Monday placed on $100,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Rawle Richmond, 21, of 137 West Lima, Essequibo was not required to plead to the carnal knowledge charge.

It is alleged that on January 17 at Georgetown he had carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl.

Attorney-at-law Lance Ferreira told the court that his client met the virtual complainant last year at Mahdia where he works as a miner. He stated that the teen was visiting relatives and the two had a relationship.

He indicated to the court that the mother of the girl did not want to proceed with the matter. The girl’s mother then stepped forward and spoke to the police about not wanting to proceed. However the charge was still read to Richmond who was then released on bail.

He will return to court on February 26.
