Waini area villages in discussions about land titles

Minister of Amerindian Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues met with Waini, Region One residents to discuss the process of obtaining land titles for these communities.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said Rodrigues visited the area on Thursday and Friday to discuss the land titling process, demarcation programme and other aspects of the new Amerindian Act to villagers.

Rodrigues said the new legislation has benefited villagers and they have been co-operating with the ministry. She said their requests are reasonable and discussions would soon be held with the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, the Guyana Forestry Commission and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission to find ways of accelerating the process. Rodrigues said that five communities will soon be given titles since the size and boundaries of the areas have already been determined and settled with the villages.
