A Zeelugt resident appeared in court yesterday after ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) searched his home and reportedly found a quantity of cocaine and marijuana.

Abdool Ahmad, 34, of 486 Seventh Avenue, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo denied the two narcotics charges and was remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.

It is alleged that on Friday, Ahmad had 28 grammes of cocaine and 13 grammes of cannabis. Reports are that around 7 pm a party of CANU ranks went to his home where they conducted a search. Three plastic bags were reportedly found in a water gutter attached to the northern side of the house. In one of the back plastic bags, ranks allegedly discovered the cocaine and in another was a quantity of cannabis. CANU Prosecutor Oswald Massiah is conducting the case.

Ahmad returns to Leonora Magistrate’s Court on February 15.
