It is indeed refreshing to note that the Ministry of Housing would be expediting the issuing of land titles and transports for house lots in housing schemes countrywide (Guyana Chronicle 29/1-/07).

There is a housing scheme that is being developed in Tabatinga in Lethem, Rupununi. Land in this area was initially issued by the Guyana Land and Surveys Commission. The area was surveyed by the GL&SC and divided into lots and issued to the public. Sometime later this scheme became the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and there were some minor modifications to the original plan created by the GL&SC.

When the scheme fell under the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing there was apprehension among persons who were allotted lots under the GL&SC plan that their lots would be taken way and resold. As such queries were made at the Ministry of Housing and officials from that Ministry were adamant that persons who were allotted lots under the GL&SC would still maintain the rights to those lots unless there had to be adjustments to cater for
