Gang robs Canje businesswoman

A six-member gang of armed bandits early yesterday morning robbed a Canje, Berbice family of some $1.4M along with cash and jewellery. And police have arrested four men who are suspected to have carried out the attack.

According to a statement by the police the robbery occurred around 2:15 yesterday morning. The robbers targeted businesswoman, Nadia Jacobs, 34 years old, at her West Canefield Canje, Berbice home. Police said all six men were armed with handguns.

Investigations so far revealed that the men broke into the home through a northern back door and held Nadia Jacobs and her 15-year-old son Anthony Jacobs at gunpoint. They proceeded to assault the teenager about his body and demanded cash and jewellery.

Following this the bandits then ransacked the house and took away a briefcase containing $1.4M cash and a quantity of jewellery and made good their escape.

Police acting on information later rounded up four men who are assisting with the investigations.
