Police yesterday morning discovered the partly decomposed and buried body of a woman in a burnt-out coal pit at the back of the Wisroc Housing Scheme in Linden.

The police, in a press release, said that around 10.45 am, ranks from the ‘E and F’ Division, acting on information went to the location where they discovered the remains. The police said the body was clad in a tee-shirt, blue denim short pants and a belt was wrapped around the neck, while the feet were tied at the ankles. Police also said a pair of slippers, a pair of green underpants and a green jersey was discovered nearby. The remains are at the Wisroc Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Stabroek News (SN) understands that a man, who prefers not to be named, is building a house not far from where the remains were discovered and had gone to his land with an employee to do construction work when they noticed carrion crows circling an area nearby. The men also reported a strong stench and thinking that it may have been a dead animal they ventured to the area to bury it when they made the gruesome discovery.

This newspaper was also told that one of the woman’s hands was behind her back when the body was discovered.

Up to press time last evening the body was still unidentified.
