Gas station owner fights off armed bandit

A gas station owner and a bandit traded shots in Linden on Sunday during a robbery attempt on the Republic Avenue service station.

Reports reaching this newspaper state that around 10 pm on Sunday the manager of the gas station, Feroze Majeed and another worker were in a car about to leave the premises when the bandit showed up and accosted Majeed. According to reports, the lone bandit placed a gun to Majeed’s neck and demanded that he hand over all his money.

The gas station owner grabbed to the bandit’s hand, spun him around and whipped out his own firearm. The two men had a scuffle following which the bandit ran away.

However, while he was escaping Majeed fired a few shots behind him and the bandit took evasive action and fired shots of his own.

Police later showed up, cordoned off the area, but failed to apprehend the bandit. They recovered two spent shells.
