GFF senior inter-association football tournament

Collie Hercules with eight goals to his name is currently the leading goal scorer in the Guyana Football Federation’s Guyflag-sponsored senior inter-association football tournament.

The Upper Demerara footballer who went into Saturday’s game against Essequibo with three goals to his credit, netted five goals in his team’s massive 16-1 win over the Essequibians at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, to take his tally of goals to eight.

Berbice’s Delroy Fraser follows closely with six goals while Georgetown’s Gregory Richardson and Anthony `Awo’ Abrams both have four goals each. Berbice’s Adrian Adams also has four goals.

In the competition’s points standing, Upper Demerara and East Coast finished the first round Group `A’ matches with seven points each. However, the Lindeners won the group on the basis of a better goal difference. Upper Demerara scored 22 goals and conceded two to end with a plus 20, while East Coast scored six goals and conceded one.

The other two teams in the group, East Bank and Essequibo finished with three and zero points respectively. East Bank scored three goals and conceded one.

In Group `B’, Georgetown who played unbeaten came out on top with nine points. They scored 19 goals and conceded three.

Berbice also finished the round with nine points, but they scored 10 goals and conceded 13.

Bartica and West Demerara, the other two teams in the group, have four points and zero respectively. Bartica scored five goals and conceded nine.

In results from matches played on Saturday, East Coast defeated East Bank 3-0 and Georgetown beat Bartica 5-0. Both matches were played at the GFC ground.

For East Coast, Tichard Joseph netted a double in the 52nd and 75th minutes while Errol Havercome scored in the 45th minute.

For Georgetown, Abrams registered a treble in the 13th, 28th and 48th while Richardson and Omali Nassy scored one goal each in the 41st and 75th respectively.

On Saturday also, Berbice whipped West Demerara 6-1 at the Rose Hall ground in Berbice and Upper Demerara demolished Essequibo 16-1.

Fraser netted a helmet trick for Berbice in the 22nd, 34th, 42nd and 60th, while Adams scored a double in the 76th and 80th minutes.

Delyon Josiah netted West Demerara’s lone goal in the 69th minute.

At the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden, Hercules blasted his five goals in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 21st and 41st minutes.

He was supported by trebles from Travis Waterton and Jermaine Adam, a double from Kayode McKinnon and one each from Kurt Murphy and Howard Lowe.

Waterton scored in the 16th, 58th and 71st minutes, Adams in the 25th, 37th and 78th minutes, Mckinnon in the 45th and 65th, Murphy in the 49th and Lowe in the 60th.

The semi-finals which are billed for early March will see Upper Demerara tackling Berbice and Georgetown taking on East Coast.
