The Jamrock Caribbean Restaurant and Grill on Thursday opened its doors to an expectant Guyanese public just as the country is preparing to host the Rio Summit and the Cricket World Cup.

Managing Director and Proprietor Paul Giddings, at a simple ceremony to mark the occasion said he is “a very proud Guyanese” who always wanted to do something different and new for the country. Guests at the opening included members of the business and legal communities and Giddings’ relatives including his 84-year-old mother, Elaine, who travelled from the USA to cut the ribbon to declare the restaurant open.

The restaurant, which will be manned by a staff of 15, is beautifully decorated with modern furnishings and photographs of Jamaican singers. It also houses a VIP section and an outside area known as the “On the Run”. The menu boasts a mix of Jamaican and Guyanese cuisine including curried goat, stewed oxtail and jerk chicken prepared by a Jamaican chef from Reggae country as well as dishes from other Caribbean territories. The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and the “On the Run” until 9 pm, from where patrons can make take-away purchases of jerk chicken and chips and other ‘fast’ foods.

The restaurant is located in Camp Street, between D’Urban and Norton streets, Georgetown.
