Scotia Bank/ Unicef /GCB Kiddie Cricket

Vreed en Hoop primary scored ten runs in the last over to defeat Goed Fortuin in the final of the Guyana Cricket Board/Unicef/Scotia Bank Kiddie cricket competition played at the Police Sports Complex yesterday.

As winners of the Demerara tournament they are one of four teams that will qualify for a competition at the National Stadium during the World Cup match on April.

The competition involved 160 kids under the age of twelve from sixteen teams of ten, which must include four girls. The teams were selected on the basis of performance in last year’s kiddie cricket competition.

Four schools ended up in today’s semi-final the two West Demerara teams were joined by Providence and St Angela’s.

They played a round robin and the top two teams met in the final.

The competition in Essequibo is scheduled for Tuesday and Berbice on Wednesday. The winner of each county’s competition will play in the competition at the stadium on April 1st.

A specially selected group of schools will participate in a playoff to determine the last spot in the competition at the stadium.

Coaches Mark Harper, Vibert Johnson, Ossie Waldron and territorial development officer Colin Stuart supervised the tournament.
