Flag raising held at Parliament yesterday

The flag-raising ceremony to observe the anniversary of Guyana’s attainment of independence was held yesterday at Parliament Building

A Guyana Information Agency (GINA) release said President Bharrat Jagdeo, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony, acting Police Commissioner Henry Greene and Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Brigadier Edward Collins were present for the traditional hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead.

It was noted in the release that Guyana’s attainment of republican status from Great Britain on February 23, 1970 remains an indelible part of the country’s history and is colourfully celebrated each year to remind the nation of its challenges to become an independent nation. Other dignitaries who attended the Parliament building ceremony were Cabinet ministers, members of the Joint Services, the Police Force, the Diplomatic Corps and members of the public.
