An assault by a teacher at Anna Regina Multilateral School has not been dealt with

Dear Editor,

It is with interest that I read in the Stabroek News of Friday 02-23 that the Regional Chairman of Region 2 has instructed the Clerk of the RDC to write the Department of Education on the issue of the beating of a pupil of Charity Primary School by a teacher.

Teachers, parents and residents of Region 2 find it ironic but predictable that a much more serious matter has not been dealt with since November of 2006. Two students of Forms One and Five of the Anna Regina Multilateral School were verbally and physically assaulted by a senior male teacher who has a history of violence against students and staff.

This matter has been in the public domain since November, 2006. Are we going to wait until another student falls before we act or do we allow this predator to prowl unhindered? The ball is in the RDCs court.

Yours faithfully

P. Lall
