The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri will be closed to commercial flights at varying periods beginning from 1 pm today, to accommodate the incoming presidential flights for the Rio Summit, which opens today.

When Stabroek News spoke with a management official at the airport yesterday he confirmed that everything was in place for the anticipated flights but noted that the airport was still receiving information as to the exact times that the flights would arrive.

The official said the management team had been holding a series of meetings with all the functionaries at the airport and much planning was done in preparation for the event and logistics already worked out.

The official said management was looking forward for the opportunity which would also provide a dry run of what to expect during the Cricket World Cup season.
