The Kids First Fund said six of the nine children being treated at the Frontier Lifeline Hospital have undergone surgery while two of the remaining three were scheduled to have their procedures on Wednesday.

In a press release, First Lady Varshnie Jagdeo said after spending four days in the United Kingdom (UK) the group arrived at the hospital in India on Sunday where the children were given pre-op, laboratory and other tests. On Monday Jamie Peters, Kuntie Rajaram, Destiny DeAlly, Requel Williams, Jasoda Narayan and Devindralall Dabidyal had catheterisations and Deokhi Harripersad had an angiogram and is scheduled to have bypass surgery. The release also said Cynthia Collins and Adrian Beharri had surgery on Wednesday.

The release said the group is “doing well and miss home” though attempts to call have been unsuccessful. It said families can call the hospital at telephone number 91 44 420 17575 to make enquiries. The release also said the care was provided under the Fund’s Heart 2 Heart programme which started in September 2005.

The groups will leave India as soon as the children are fit to travel, and will spend four days in the UK before their scheduled March 20 return to Guyana. The release said a fundraising activity at the Guyana High Commission has been planned for March 18.

The release said the First Lady extended gratitude to everyone who made the trip possible especially the Fund’s volunteers and supporters, both locally and in the UK, Mama, Aunty Pauline, Roy Kieran and Camillia, the staff at the high commission, the Westminster Council, Dr KM Cherian and the staff at the hospital.
