Man fined $25,000 over $3,000 gas debt

A man who took gasoline without paying for it was fined $25,000 with the alternative of three months imprisonment when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Dasrath Lall of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara admitted to a charge of obtaining credit by fraud and was fined by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

According to the facts on the case, last Monday at La Union, WCD, Lall took gasoline to the value of $3,000 from Deon Griffith without paying. Police arrested him after the matter was reported.

Lall, in explaining his actions to the court said that Griffith owed him some money. “He owe me that is why I do it,” he told the court.
