A 29-year-old fisherman who allegedly tried to murder his cousin was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Samanram Sukhai called ‘Lova’ of Parika Fa?e, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was not required to plead to the indictable charge of attempted murder and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that last Thursday at Parika, EBE, Sukhai with intent to commit murder wounded Premnauth Sookram.

Reports are that on the said day, the two cousins were drinking Guinness when a misunderstanding arose and Sukhai, reportedly using a knife chopped Sookram on his shoulder and neck. He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was admitted. A report was made to the police and Sukhai was arrested and charged.

Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue informed the court that Sookram is still in the hospital.

Sukhai will return to court on April 12 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
