Don’t keep your finger on the trigger

Dear Editor,

Sometime back, after the introduction of armed foot patrols around the city, I observed one or two ranks carrying their weapons with their finger on the trigger. I related this unsafe practice to a former security friend of mine who confirmed that it was a violation of standard safety rules pertaining to the use of weapons i.e loaded firearms.

Now that an officer has accidentally shot himself through the careless use of his weapon by not having his trigger finger on the outside trigger guard, I trust that it will serve as an example for others to desist from this practice and adhere to the safety rules.

Yours faithfully,

(name and address provided)
