Dear Editor,

Since my letter on the 12th December 2006 concerning the condition of the roads in Kara Kara and Rainbow City, some amount of work has been done to some of the roads but I really cannot understand what sort of plan was used to carry out this project.

In First Street Rainbow City, some parts were patch-ed. I guess because parts of the existing roads were hard. However, less than half of Thomas Street was done, Gaskin Road was patched, but Carter Street, Proctor Street and Accabre Drive which leads to the highway were not done at all.

When the weather is dry and vehicles traverse these streets, particularly Accabre Drive, the red dust forms thick clouds and when it rains, residents still have to contend with the slush.

The drains are green with slime and overgrown with a luscious growth of wild eddoes, which provides a haven for snakes and mosquitoes.

The trenches were dug out and it seems as though the flood waters have abated. I trust that these trenches will be monitored and maintained so that residents will continue to experience the joy of living in the comfort of their own homes.

I am sure that the residents are thankful for what has been done but we are truly looking forward to the time when we will be able to enjoy walking and driving on proper roads and living in a safer environment.

Most of the householders are Senior Citizens but they weed their parapets, dig the drains at intervals and pull out the wild eddoes but these grow back and the water is not flowing out from the drains so the water is stagnant.

We are in dire need of technical help concerning the drains and wild eddoes.

I trust that something would be done in the near future to improve our environment.

Yours faithfully,

Rita Barton
