I refer to my letter captioned “The beleaguered fishermen have got little help” (07.03.08).

I have a suggestion. GT&T and Digicel should give these fishermen cheap cell phones programmed to call 911 (if they would ever answer) and GDF (helicopters) when they see the bandits bearing down on them. The helicopters armed with AK-47s (if they have any left) would fly over the boats and even if the bandits are alongside the fishermen’s boats, seeing the helicopters they will break off the attack. They can then dive down on the bandits who will flee and the GDF might even fire and sink their boats.

Something must be done – we seem to be drifting into anarchy. Only yesterday one corner from me bandits attacked Beacon’s restaurant.

Today motor cycles and cell phones play a major role in these robberies and jewellery stolen is melted in crucibles run by various businesses into globs of metal.
