The PNCR barely got a majority in Linden which used to be a stronghold

Dear Editor,

I am shocked and surprised by the naivete of the letter by Ms Vanessa Kissoon captioned “We remain committed to our leader, Mr Corbin” (KN 07.03.20).

Ms Kissoon says that I am misguided but I wish to tell her that it is the PNCR that is misguided. It is the PNCR that put up a recycled politician as presidential candidate believing that traditional PNCR supporters would have voted for him because of Forbes Burnham’s legacy. Quite a lot of them did not and that is why the PNCR moved from a position where it had 80% of the vote in that Region in 2001 to 51% of the votes in 2006.

Mr Corbin took a region that was a landslide PNCR constituency and could barely avert losing the region by 1%.

Ms Kissoon says that persons in Region Ten support Mr Corbin. I must say to her that she misses the point. Mr Corbin is from Linden which was once an 80% constituency for the PNCR. The issue cannot be if people in Linden support Mr Corbin. The issue must be how many persons do not support him. How many persons in Christiansburg do not support him? What about Ituni and Kwakwani? How many persons in these areas support Mr Corbin?

I do not support Mr Corbin to continue as leader because he is an underachiever and I do not believe that he is the best person the PNCR can offer this nation. I do not believe that he is doing the best for PNCR supporters nor that he ever will. If Ms Kissoon and others in the PNCR want to bury their heads in the sand that is a matter for them.

We have looked at the decisions Mr Corbin made that affected Linden. Firstly, he did not make Aubrey Norton the PNCR MP for Linden. Why is that so? But if he did not put Aubrey Norton there were so many Linden people who he could have put. What about Sandra Adams, Abdul Kadir or Mortimer Yearwood just to name a few? Mr Corbin took a non-Lindener to make the parliamentarian. Could Mr Corbin tell me if there is no Linden person who qualifies to go to parliament. Then to take the eye pass even further Mr Corbin takes a non-Lindener who is a political neophyte to make the parliamentarian. How can Ms Kissoon represent Linden if she does not know the area nor does she have the political experience or public recognition?

I believe that Aubrey Norton should be the leader of the PNCR. Firstly, he is more qualified and is an intellectual. Secondly he is much more liked by Linden people. Linden people want someone who can represent them and Aubrey Norton will give them a better deal.

Yours faithfully,

Ivan David
