Dear Editor,

Once upon a time, when a dear relative, friend or acquaintance died we accompanied the remains from the church or funeral parlour to the Cemetery (Le Repentir).It was then an expression of sympathy and support to the aggrieved. Today, unless you are a close relative , we part at the church or parlour because of the untidy and unfriendly environment of the cemetery, so when I saw in tuesday’s SN City Hall’s campaign entitled ” Operation Respect For The Dead” I couldn’t help but remark how ironic and uncaring.

This administration kept me away from visiting my parents’ tomb for over a decade because of the reasons expressed above and now they have the cheek to label their campaign as one of respect. “Gimme a break,” it’s due to the World Cup. But up to this morning I still could not see my parents’ tomb from the Princes street entrance. To City Hall I say “You paint um- nat me”.
