A teenaged boy accused of having carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl on two occasions was on Wednesday refused bail by Magistrate Melissa Robertson Ogle.

The 17-year-old was not required to plead to the charge of having carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that the offences were committed on January 24 and February 1 at North East La Penitence.

Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who represented the accused told the court that the girl and the boy had a relationship. He said the girl indicated in her statement that the act was consensual and his client was charged because of the girl’s age. He added that his client was first released into the custody of his mother pending advice from the DPP and was later brought before the court. The girl he said had gone to his client’s home and someone saw her and called the police who went and arrested his client.

Police Prosecutor Desiree Fowler did not object to bail since her facts were the same as the defence’s.

However, the magistrate refused bail and the case was transferred to court five for April 13.
