Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday refused bail to an East Bank business contractor accused of having carnal knowledge of a teenaged girl on two separate occasions at Timehri.

Roy Anthony Williams, 24, a contractor who resides at 12-13 Coverden, East Bank Demerara, was not required to plead to two carnal knowledge charges at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on February 8 and March 6 at Timehri, East Bank Demerara he had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15.

Police Prosecutor Desiree Fowler asked that bail be denied the accused on the basis of the seriousness of the offence. The virtual complainant, she said, is a juvenile who cannot under any circumstances by law consent to sex.

Attorney-at-law Mark Waldron who represented Williams told the court that his client works with his father at Licorish Construction. The counsel said that at no time did Williams have any intimate contact with the virtual complainant. He stated further that he was not saying anything against the virtual complainant but a trend has now been started where allegations are made and the hope is to settle the matter. He was referring to persons making such allegations and collecting money to have the matter settled out of court.

Williams was remanded and his case was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for today.
