The first of the ICC Super Eight matches to be played in Guyana begins today however Guyanese seem to be purchasing more tickets for Sunday’s mouth-watering clash between West Indies and Sri Lanka.
According to information received by this newspaper the cheaper tickets for Sunday’s game have already been sold out but a small number of US$90 and US$100 tickets are still available. West Indies is expected to play one game in Guyana on Sunday and Guyanese do not want to miss the chance of a lifetime to see them in action in the world cup. Whether Sunday’s match will have a sold-out crowd is left to be seen but information coming out from the ticket centre at Middle Street is that tickets for the match are selling.
Tickets for the first game to be played in Guyana, between South Africa and Sri Lanka, were not sold out when Stabroek News (SN) visited the centre yesterday afternoon. SN could not confirm how many tickets were sold. Persons queued at the Local Organising Cricket ticketing centre were buying tickets for Sunday’s match as well as today’s game. Others were seen asking for directions to purchase parking tickets for their vehicles. SN only observed four short lines at the centre while volunteers were busy assisting persons in making their purchases. One volunteer at the gate directed persons where to go to buy the various tickets while inside the ticket section another volunteer directed persons to which queues to join.
SN attempted to speak with someone in charge to find out about the sale of the tickets however this proved futile. This newspaper was told that the supervisor was not speaking with the media.
