The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) says more than 600 cases are before the court since it launched its anti-littering campaign.

A press release from the M&CC says its campaign continues in several areas in Georgetown including Bourda, Lacytown, Stabroek, Charlestown and La Penitence.

The campaign aims to persuade citizens to use waste receptacles and to keep their surroundings clean. The M&CC said by law citizens are required to have proper waste receptacles on their premises for the disposal of refuse and the absence of such receptacles is contributing to the culture of littering in the city.

The persons before the court were found in breach of these laws.

Meanwhile, the M&CC distributed more than 50 garbage receptacles to schools and senior citizens in the downtown area. A, H And L Kissoon Company donated the bins to the campaign. The council appeals to citizens to help to maintain clean and healthy environments.
