UK visa fees go up from April 1

A fee increase for British consular and visa services takes effect from April 1 and this will affect the British High Commission in Guyana as well as all other UK embassies and missions.

For a Visitor’s Visa to the UK, persons will have to pay from $26,500 depending on the reason for the visit and the length of stay applied for, the British High Commission in Georgetown said in a press release.

And the fees for other categories of visas including settlement, student and work permit holder, have also increased. Persons applying for visas are advised to check with the Consular Section of the High Commission for the revised fees.

The review of the consular services provided by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office showed that the costs for these services were underestimated. The increases now reflect the full cost of providing an effective visa service, which not only protects the UK from illegal working, organized crime, extremism and terrorism, but also provides the best service to travellers and migrants, the release stated.

It said further that all applicants for UK visas, whether it is to the UK or to any of its overseas territories, are reminded that applications must be made using the forms available at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk. and visa appointments must be made at www.visaappointments.fco.gov.uk
