Regatta football kicks off today

Six teams will compete for a $100,000 first prize when the inaugural Bartica Regatta football tournament fires off under floodlights at the Bartica Community Centre Ground this evening.

In the opening game of today’s double-header Lazio will track down Wolves starting at 7 pm. Beacons of Bartica tackle GFC in the feature event which commences at 9 pm. The tournament is being promoted by I Movement Promotions and will be declared open by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Steve Ninvalle.

A release from I Movement Promotions stated that the Member of Parliament will also be looking at the development of football in Bartica while there.

The other teams participating in the competition are: Rainbow United of Mahdia and Uprising of Georgetown. The team winning the tournament will also receive a set of uniforms.

Fifty thousand dollars and a set of uniforms are guaranteed to the team placing second. The knockout competition wraps up on Thursday. The competition is being sponsored by Royo Fraser Mining Company, Modern Hotel, Neighborhood Pharmacy, Steve’s Construc-tion and Double Platinum Inc.
