Armed bandits rob Chinese restaurant

Two men, one of whom was armed with a gun yesterday morning robbed a Chinese restaurant at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) of an undisclosed sum of money before escaping in a car.

The men robbed the Kei Kong restaurant located on the Public Road at Herstelling. The family refused to speak about the incident but Stabroek News understands that about 10.30am yesterday the men entered the restaurant and ordered food and drinks. After it arrived, one of them confronted the cashier and demanded the money she had, which was handed over. In the process she was struck in the face.

When Stabroek News arrived at the scene at about 11 am yesterday two detectives were taking notes. The food and Guinness which the men had reportedly ordered still lay on the table and dried blood could still be seen on the cashier’s mouth. The family was visibly upset.

Neighbours said that it was just about 10.30 am yesterday when they heard shouting and saw one of the victims run out onto the road and begin shouting, “Thief, thief.” They said that the men escaped in a car which headed up the East Bank Public road.
