Pork-knocker remanded on gun, armed robbery charges

A man who was allegedly found with a Beretta pistol along with seven bullets after he allegedly robbed a woman of money was on Monday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

John Kennedy, 24, a pork-knocker (miner) who resides at ‘D’ Field Sophia pleaded not guilty to two unlawful possession and robbery under arms charges when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on September 27 at Georgetown, without lawful authority he had one .22 Beretta pistol along with seven live rounds of .22 ammunition. On the same date he is also accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint of $10,000 cash.

Attorney-at-law Vic Puran who represented Kennedy told the court that his client had had no previous conviction and he requested that the firearm be tested for fingerprints. The attorney added that the police officer who arrested his client has a history of antagonising him.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail for Kennedy.

The magistrate remanded him and transferred the case to Court Two for today.
