Police say 911 number fully operational – Rohee

Even though there have been numerous complaints about the seemingly non-functional 911 number, made mostly by victims of bandit attacks, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee has said that daily reports from the police show that the number is operational.

The Government Information Agency (GINA) quoted Minister Rohee as saying: “I see the police reports every day and they say that the 911 number was tested and found to be working, so when I hear from people [about] the non-functioning of the 911 number and I try to reconcile that with what is in the police report, then obviously the discrepancies have to be clarified.”

The minister also told GINA that he has had a meeting with the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T) Chief Executive Officer (Ret.) Major General Joe Singh on the matter and he assured him that whenever there is a problem with the 911 lines, the police would notify the company and the fault is rectified immediately.

According to GINA, the Guyana Police Force has a designated officer who reports any breakdown in the 911 communication system.
