Body of woman found near police station

The body of an unidentified woman was yesterday morning discovered in a trench, a stone’s throw from the East La Penitence Police Station.

There were no visible marks of violence on the body but froth was evident in the nose and on the mouth.

Stabroek News understands that someone was walking through an alleyway near the trench around 6 am when they saw the body lying in the water.

The woman of African descent was clad in a pair of jeans and a flowered top and is said to be in her late twenties, early thirties.

A pair of yellow rubber slippers was discovered a few yards away at the side of the trench.

This newspaper spoke to residents in the area and no one recounted hearing or seeing anything strange during the course of the night or early yesterday morning.

A resident told this newspaper that after the alarm was raised ranks from the nearby station rushed to the scene.

The body is presently lying at the Lyken Funeral home.

Police are investigating.
