Two men with pending matters before the court who allegedly shot at another man while he was driving were yesterday placed on $125,000 bail each by Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys.

Odinga Stewart and Oppo Seeraj were not required to plead to discharging a loaded firearm when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. Stewart was also charged with malicious damage to property and was placed on an additional $125,000 bail.

It is alleged that on October 1 at Georgetown they discharged a loaded firearm at Alfie Garraway with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him actual bodily harm. It was revealed that the men shot at Garraway’s car as he was driving. Stewart is also accused on the same day of unlawfully and maliciously damaging one back windscreen and car amplifier to the total value of $61,000, property of Rosanne Garraway. It was also told to the court that both men have other matters pending in the court. Stewart stated that he was recently released from prison. The virtual complainant Garraway is also to be charged but his case was not properly before the court and it will be called on Monday. An arrest warrant was said to have been issued for Seeraj in another court so although he was granted bail he still will be remanded.

Attorneys-at-law Tameshwar Sarwan, Lawrence Harris and Michael Somersall are representing the men. Sarwan had asked the court for the men to be able to lodge surety, but the magistrate refused. Stewart stated that he would be unable to raise the bail since he is already on bail for another offence.

Their case was transferred to Court Five for October 15.
