Cyclist dies after falling under truck

Less than twenty-four hours after he fell off his bicycle landing under a truck travelling along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Lakeram called ‘Bulby’ succumbed to his injuries yesterday afternoon at the Georgetown Hospital.

Reports are that Lakeram, 69, of Land of Plenty, Essequibo Coast, who was under the influence of alcohol was riding his bicycle south along the Reliance Public Road around 5 pm on Friday when he attempted to pass a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.

However he lost control of his bicycle and slammed into the tray of the truck coming in the opposite direction. He fell under the truck and into the path of the truck’s back wheels.

Lakeram was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Hospital but the x-ray department was not functioning so the injured man was taken to the Charity Hospital. Following the x-ray he was returned to the Suddie Hospital and was then transferred to the Georgetown Hospital early yesterday morning. He died around 2 pm. He sustained massive head injuries.

He leaves behind six daughters and a son and he lived alone.
