Head of the Catholic Diocese of Guyana Bishop Francis Alleyne has announced the formation of a fund-raising committee for the building of the new Sacred Heart Church and the development of the site at Main Street, Georgetown, the Catholic Standard reported.

Friday’s edition of the paper reported that the site will house the Parish Church for the Sacred Heart Parish Community together with a multi-purpose diocesan building and a small presbytery/caretaker’s dwelling.

According to the weekly, Fr John Persaud, Ramsay Ali, Martin Brock, Debbie De Santos, Paul James, Amanda St Aubyn and Pauline Stevenson are the persons identified so far to be part of the committee, and it is expected that other members will be named in due course.

The paper stated too that the committee would launch its fund-raising programme shortly.
