Remanded over US$2,000 armed robbery

Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys yesterday remanded a man to prison after he appeared on a charge of stealing US$2,000 at gunpoint from another man who was charged last Friday with shooting at him.

Alfie Garraway was not required to plead to robbery under arms when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on October 1 at Georgetown while armed with a gun he robbed Oppo Seeraj of US$2,000.

Attorney-at-law Ronald Burch-Smith represented Garraway.

Last Friday two men were placed on $125,000 bail each by the same magistrate for shooting at Garraway. Odinga Stewart and Seeraj were not required to plead to discharging a loaded firearm. Stewart was also charged with malicious damage to property and was placed on an additional $125,000 bail. It is alleged that on October 1 at Georgetown they discharged a loaded firearm at Garraway with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him actual bodily harm. It was revealed that the men shot at Garraway’s car as he was driving.

Stewart is also accused on the same day of unlawfully and maliciously damaging one back windscreen and car amplifier to the total value of $61,000, property of Rosanne Garraway.

Garraway has now been charged with stealing from Seeraj.

The case was transferred to Court Five for October 15.
