A Guyanese woman was found strangled to death in her home in Trinidad on Wednesday night and the personal driver to a politician is the man police suspect killed her, a report in the Trinidad Guardian said yesterday.

According to the report, the woman, Aneela Persad, 24, was found by her brother, Dhaniram Persad, who went home on Wednesday evening and passed the alleged killer as he left the house.

Reports are that the brother and sister hail from Three Friends village in Essequibo and had gone to Trinidad six years ago to find a better life. Yesterday there was a tent in the yard where the two once lived but no one was at home to give a comment to this newspaper.

Aneela worked as an office assistant at an auto supply shop in Chaguanas, Port of Spain while her brother works as a mechanic.

The two lived in an apartment at St Thomas Village, Chaguanas.

The Guardian report stated that Aneela had a 40-year-old lover who was said to be employed by a senior politician.

Her brother told the police that he arrived home just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday but did not greet the suspect because they did not speak to each other. He further said he went into the apartment and looked at television for a short while before noticing that there was no key on the door leading to his sister’s room, as was the norm. He said he found a key and went into the room, believing her to be asleep, but then saw blood flowing from her mouth and nose.
