Bishops’ ‘old girls’ admitted to the Bar

Bishops’ High School ‘old girls’ and attorneys-at-law Faye Barker and Yogini Lochan met again last week when they were admitted to the local bar.

Attorney General Doodnauth Singh presented their petitions to High Court Judge Jainarayan Singh Jr and the young lawyers vowed to uphold the standards of the profession while continuing on a path to further qualifications. “The law is always evolving and we have to move with the change,” 23-year-old Lochan said, during a brief interview with Stabroek News.

Lochan and Barker successfully completed their law degrees at the University of Guyana (UG) in 2005 and later moved on to the Hugh Wooding Law School where they obtained their legal certificates. Barker, a Mahaica, East Coast Demerara resident, said she was relieved to be admitted to the Bar after so many years of hard work and studies. “I am relieved that the studying is over
