Berbician Ian Latchana Anamayah was admitted to the bar on Friday, becoming the third member of his family to join the legal profession.

Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos presented Anamayah’s petition before Justice Roxanne George at the Berbice High Court. He said Anamayah “comes to court with a good background and a promising career as a lawyer.” He also described the recent Hugh Wooding Law School graduate as a hard worker who brings with him both scholarship and experience. De Santos said that Anamayah has his feet firmly planted in religion and is a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. Anamayah joins his father, Joseph, “an attorney for many years, and his brother Adrian who is also a seasoned lawyer.”

The young lawyer earned a BSC in Economics in 2002 from the University of Guyana before obtaining an LLB degree in 2005. He later qualified for the Certificate of the Council of Legal Education from the Trinidad-based law school. Born on the Corentyne, Anamayah attended the Rose Hall Primary School and then the JC Chandisingh where he passed eight subjects before he moved on to Queen’s College.
