1243 traffic cases in four days

The police in their zero tolerance campaign to improve road safety in the country have brought over 1200 cases against defaulting motorists over a four- day period.

According to a police press release, between Monday, October 29 and November 1, 1,243 cases have been made against defaulting motorists.

The release added that in ‘A’ Division(Georgetown/EBD) they made 483 cases, ‘B’ Division (Berbice), 386, ‘C’ Division (ECD) 184, ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/EBE) 156, ‘E&F’ Division (Linden & Interior) two and ‘G’ Division (Essequibo) 32 cases.

The cases which were more prevalent were speeding 154 cases, overloaded minibus 170, obstruction, 69, failing to conform to signs, 39, breach of road service licence, 54, failure to wear a seatbelt, 33, dangerous driving 39 and crossing the double yellow line, 27.

Apart from these cases pedestrians are also being charged for not adhering to the traffic light signal and walking in the path of oncoming cars.
