A 25-year-old mini-bus conductor was early yesterday morning fatally stabbed while hanging out on Sheriff Street.

Dead is Anthony Rogers of 242 Gordon Street, Kitty. While details of how the incident occurred are sketchy, reports are that he was outside a Sheriff Street business place when he was stabbed just around 4 am. He fell to the ground and was left there until police arrived. He was then transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Recounting when she had last seen him, Ramkumarie Tekaran, his reputed wife of 5 years told Stabroek News that shortly after dropping her home yesterday morning, he went out again. Tekaran, who works at a restaurant close to where her husband was stabbed stated that he had just told her he was going out again but did not tell her where.

“He seh he going out back on the road but he ain’t tell me where he going”, she stated.

Shortly after, she received a message informing her that he had been stabbed. She rushed to the hospital and upon arriving there she was told that he had already died. She stated that her husband had been stabbed in his stomach and in the region of his heart. She said that she did not know the details of what really happened but noted that he had been drinking with a friend. Other relatives stated that a taxi-driver came to inform them of the incident and they were told that he had been left lying on the roadway until police arrived and called an ambulance to transport him to the hospital. They too said that they did not know the details of how the incident occurred.

At the home yesterday, relatives gathered and shaking his head one of Roger’s grieving siblings stated that “I does tell he about he drinking boy”.

Stabroek News was told that Rogers normally went out to drink on Saturday nights. At the spot, just outside a pools hall, where the incident occurred, blood stains were still visible on the ground. Persons at the business place refused to speak about the matter.
