Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad on Monday launched an overland tour to Kaieteur National Park in support of domestic tourism here.

According to GINA, Minister Prashad said. “It is important for the locals to know and see their own country before we can invite people from other countries to get the most of Guyana’s beauty.” The overland tour to Kaieteur National Park during November 17-21 is a joint effort by the National Parks Commission, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and Rainforest Tours.

The private sector is also playing a critical role and involves the participation of GUYOIL, the Region Eight administration, the Guyana Forestry Commission and several other entities.

The Kaieteur special package was initiated by the private sector in July 2007 to enable Guyanese to visit the majestic falls at reduced rates.

This initiative will run until December 31.

“This special package is a private sector partnership which is not being subsidised by government so that Guyanese who have never had a chance to visit the Kaieteur National Park can do so,” Prashad said.
