Greene clarifies torture statement

Acting Commissioner of Police Henry Greene clarified yesterday that he was quoted out of context in the Stabroek News as saying that the police had not tortured the two Buxtonians, Victor Jones and Patrick Summer.

Stabroek News on Friday last reported the Acting Police Chief as saying that the police had not tortured the men. However, Greene told this newspaper yesterday that was not what he said.

He clarified that his position was that the police force was not about brutality and torture. Greene said he was not asked about the torture allegations when he spoke at a function last week Thursday, but he made general remarks on torture and police procedure.
