‘Trunkers’ (thieves specializing in stealing from vehicles) yesterday made off with a large amount of money from a vehicle belonging to an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) employee after supposedly tracing him from a city bank.

According to reports the incident occurred around 15:00 hours.

Reports reaching Stabroek News stated that Cecil Rajana of 1315 Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara lost some $860,000, which he had left in his parked vehicle on Gordon Street, Kitty. Sources told this newspaper that Rajana had earlier in the day uplifted the money from Demerara Bank and left it in his Pathfinder vehicle, PJJ 4318 when he went to visit a friend in Gordon Street.

The source said after spending 30 minutes at the friend’s house, Rajana went back to his parked vehicle and found that one of the windows and the lock on the door had been broken. Upon seeing this, the man immediately checked for his money but discovered it was gone.

Following investigations police said they believed that Rajana was traced by the ‘trunkers’ to the Gordon Street location where the money was stolen.
