Boy, 16, remanded on sex assault charge

A 16-year-old boy accused of having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl was remanded into police custody when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The teenager was not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnally knowing a girl under the age of 15 years and was remanded into police custody by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that on September 23 at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, the teen unlawfully and carnally knew the 13-year-old girl. Following police investigations he was arrested and charged.

He will return to court on December 10 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
