Two more hospitalised following road accidents

Even as police are on a zero-tolerance traffic campaign in response to a recent upsurge in vehicular deaths, motorists continue to use the roadways carelessly resulting in accidents almost on a daily basis.

Two men are currently patients of the Georgetown Hospital after being involved separate accidents on Tuesday.

The first case involves a 45-year-old man who was injured when the car he was in slammed into a fence at Coldigen, East Coast Demerara.

A press release from the Georgetown Hospital said that around 9.15 am, Sewchan Baljeet of Lot 12 Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit. He sustained injuries to his ribs and chest and was admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the medical institution.

And in the other incident, a 57-year-old man had to be hospitalized in the same medical institution after he was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road.

A release from the institution said that around 11 pm Mahdu of Lot 36 Public Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit with injuries to his head and right side after he was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the La Grange Public Road.

He is currently a patient of the open ward.
